Applesauce
I just went apple picking recently, and I was trying to figure out what to do with all those apples! I used to eat applesauce quite frequently as a kid, sooo....applesauce it is!!!
Here is a recipe I adapted from Betty Crocker Cookbook- Heart Health Edition c2007
(p. 468)
Applesauce
Ingredients
(approx. 6 servings)
4 medium cooking apples (1 1/3 lb), peeled, cut into fourths and cored ( I used Honeycrisp apples and cut them up into smaller chunks so they would cook faster.)
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup packed brown sugar or 3-4 Tbsp granulated sugar ( I used brown sugar)
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg ( I totally forgot to get this at the store, so I used about 3 whole cloves instead.)
Directions
1. In a 3 1/2-to 6-quart slow cooker, mix all of the ingredients. Cover and cook on the High heat setting for about 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours or until the apples are tender; stir.
(My apples took about 2 hours to cook.)
